This destination is not just about bowling; it’s a vibrant space blending entertainment and dining, making it the perfect spot for families, friends, or co-workers looking for a good time.
As a food reviewer for Foodjoyy, I was excited to explore the offerings at Spare Time. The experience truly stands out with its array of utilities designed for everyone, especially families. The venue is kid-friendly, featuring a dedicated kids menu that includes favorites like chicken tenders, cheeseburgers, and cheese pizza. It's an ideal place to celebrate milestones—just ask customer Jennifer H., who lauded the seamless organization of her department’s year-end celebration. She noted how the friendly staff, particularly Kylie and Brea, went above and beyond to ensure everyone had a memorable time.
But it’s not just the food that’s worth talking about. Spare Time Des Moines offers a diverse range of activities—from traditional bowling to laser tag and an arcade, making it a one-stop shop for entertainment. I was particularly impressed by the high-tech bowling lanes that refund balls and rearrange pins swiftly. The ambience adds to the experience, enhanced by creative lighting and comfortable seating that easily accommodates groups.
While enjoying the funky decor and lively vibe, I tried their delicious food. The menu also has options for adults looking for that perfect meal to complement their bowling experience. My favorites included the pizza and salad—both delicious and reasonably priced. Customer Rachel Z. echoed this sentiment, praising the quality and atmosphere.

“ I should have written this back in December! The large company I work for is just down the street from Spare Time and I decided to see if they could accommodate a department year-end celebration. Bowling, pizza, salad, pop for 118 people for 2 hours. I worked with Kylie Sebert and Brea McNeil and they did a great job!! The food, service, vibe, was great! No issues with getting shoes, having lunch, and having a blast bowling. I think everyone enjoyed themselves and I appreciated Kylie and Brea's help with everything - working with me on the budget, making sure everything was flawless. Thank you, Spare Time! There were many that had never been there before and were excited to come back with their families and friends. ”
“ Trivia on Thursdays 6pm is awesome Happy Hour 5pm -7pm is also awesome. For drinks as well as appetizers. Bartenders always friendly & on point. ”
“ I've never been to a bowling alley that had laser tag! First time ever playing a game of bowling and laser tag. It was fun. The taco bar unfortunately never got refilled so that was a bummer. No one was paying attention to that. It was a busy place and we were able to get what we needed in a timely matter. Cool spot. ”
“ My friends and I ate at Spare Time, and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was also great with really neat lighting, decor, and comfortable seating. It was busy, so we had to wait a bit before we could bowl, but the staff was super helpful with allowing us enough time to finish our meals before heading to our lanes. I had a positive experience here! ”
“ Spare Time is truly what Des Moines and it's suburbs was missing. This location provides an array of options for family friendly fun suitable for a kids birthday party or a dad looking to watch the Hawkeyes game with a beer. Spare time offers a bowling alley, arcade, escape rooms and laser tag. The service was great and present through the evening. I didn't need to look more than a few seconds to locate any employee. As it ranks, the arcade is reasonably priced compared to most averaging $1.50 per game. Game cards are reloadable and tickets are collected via the card as well which makes keeping track for future visits super easy. Bowling at Spare Time is great. The lanes are high tech with sensors that relocate pins and refund balls quicker than traditional lanes. There are also lots of fame styles available at the lanes. Shoes and balls were clean. and seating area is comfortable and spacious. Bowling at Spare Time is quite expensive compared to most alleys in the area, starting at $60 for 1.5 hours not including shoe rental. I paid $80 for three people for 1.5 hours. Nonetheless for the comfort and experience it was worth the cost. Will update review further as I experience more of what Spare Time has to offer. ”
